Tensile testing machines

Máquinas de ensayo

Tensile tests, a mechanical material testing method to determine the characteristic values of materials, are carried out with the aid of tensile machines or universal testing machines.

Depending on the type of material to be tested, the method is used according to the respective standard to determine the values of yield strength, tensile strength and elongation at break, among others.

Tensile tests

Tensile tests can be carried out on different types of specimens;

  • One of the most characteristic is the corrugated steel bar, both in carbon steel and stainless steel or aluminum. In this type of product SERVOSIS is one of the main suppliers of equipment for the main national steel groups.
  • In narrow machined specimens to determine the behavior of the material under uniaxial stress uniformly distributed in the section of the specimen.
  • In notched specimens for the simulation of multiaxial stress states.
  • In products such as cables and wires, yarns, films and foils, ropes, molding elements, components or groups of components.

What should we take into account when carrying out this type of test?

To carry out this type of tests, we must have the necessary equipment, among which, as we have already mentioned, the tensile machines stand out. They consist of two parts:

1- The load producing device, which can be servohydraulic, servomechanical or pneumatic and which has a fixed and a mobile head.

2- The load and displacement measuring device, which is electronic, regulates the application of the load and generates the diagrams that cause the behavior of the specimen.

Analysis of data collected from tensile tests

With the curve obtained from the test, we would have access to the measurements of elastic deformations, creep, plastic deformations and striction, which would give us access to data such as the limits of proportionality or elasticity. This is the only way to ensure that the chosen material will or will not fail to perform its intended function, i.e. manufacturers can obtain a complete profile of its tensile properties.

The test report will show the Standard under which the test has been performed, the parameterization of the test, the machine data and the test results, as well as the graphical force/strain curve.

At Servosis, we offer the best machinery to perform this type of tests and we also have six models adapted to meet the different needs of our customers.

These are the models that make up our catalog of traction machines; ME 402, ME 405, MUE 403 and MUE 404

ME-402 Series

The ME-402 series tensile machines cover the low load range for quasi-static tests on all types of materials, such as: plastics, rubbers, steels, aluminum, building materials, soils, asphalts, etc.

The measurement accuracy of the analog force and displacement channels complies with Class 1 of EN7500-1

They are built in capacities from 0.1 to 30 t. They are built in floor or tabletop format. Its versatility allows it to be used in most of the standardized tests, being able to work both in tension and compression, with the appropriate tooling, within the same space.

ME-402

The ME-405 series testing machines cover the low load range for quasi-static tests on all types of materials, such as: plastics, rubbers, steels, aluminum, etc.  The accuracy complies with Class 1 of the EN-7500-1 Standard

They are built in capacities from 0.5 to 50 t. Its versatility allows it to be used in most of the standardized tests, being able to work both in tension and compression, with the appropriate tooling, within the same space.

It is basically composed of bedplate, lateral columns (depending on the capacity there can be 2 or 4), upper bridge, lower bridge, load cell, grips, measurement and control equipment, consisting of a PC and the PCD2K control software.

ME-405

The MUE-403 testing machines can perform static and dynamic tests with different capacities, from 5 to 100 Tm, up to 5 Hz.

Designed mainly for testing steels and rigid materials, both round and flat bars and corrugated bars, they can also test any other type of material.

They have high rigidity (higher than 1Fn/mm), low maintenance, easy installation, great variety of tests, speed in the placement of different samples, among other characteristics.

The whole system is hydraulically servo-controlled, including jaw drives, movements and upper bridge locking.

MUE-403

The MUE-404 series testing machines allow performing static and dynamic low frequency tensile and compression tests in the same space, through a double acting cylinder controlled by a servo-valve.

They are mainly used for tensile testing of metallic specimens, both round and flat bars and corrugated bars.

The working load capacities are between 60 and 200 Tm (on request up to 500 Tm). When these machines are used for static tests, hydraulic groups are installed with a flow rate between 13 and 38 l/min, achieving displacement speeds of approx. 3 mm/sg.

In dynamic tests, the flow rate will be studied depending on the test. Maximum working frequency 10Hz.
