This year, Servosis was honored to participate as a sponsor combating hydrogen embrittlement in the prestigious congress of the Spanish Fracture Group (GEF)The conference is an exceptional platform for the exchange of knowledge, presentation of scientific advances and discussion of challenges in the fatigue and fracture of materials.
These annual congresses have been a benchmark in the study of material fatigue and fracture of structural elements since 1984, bringing together scientists and engineers passionate about this area of engineering.

At this year's congress, one of the central topics that captured the attention of the attendees was the «Hydrogen Embrittlement»This issue is a a critical challenge in the materials industry. and can lead to catastrophic fractures in structures and components. During the event, various research and solutions were discussed to address this phenomenon and ensure the safety and integrity of infrastructures..
Servosis and Hydrogen Embrittlement"
At Servosis, we are committed to research and developing solutions to address Hydrogen Embrittlement.. In collaboration with Enagás and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM)we have developed an innovative fatigue testing system. This project was presented at Materplata Spanish technological platform for advanced materials and nanomaterials, driven by the State Research Agency.
Our commitment doesn't stop here. Aware of the growing importance of hydrogen transportation, we actively participate in the research and development of new solutions. to ensure safety and efficiency in this area. Hydrogen transportation is becoming a reality in Europeand we are determined to be leaders in providing the most suitable materials to meet this challenge.
Equipment jointly designed by CIME, ENAGAS, Servosis, and Teyco.
We present to you the equipment that was jointly designed by the CIME, ENAGÁS, Servosis and Teycowhich allows for the simultaneous testing of up to 5 compact specimens under force control. The specimens used were directly obtained from various pipelines in service within the ENAGÁS network.

Benefits of these tests
Hydrogen embrittlement tests are of vital importance in the industry for evaluating and understanding how hydrogen affects the integrity and strength of materials. Below are some of the key benefits of conducting these tests:
- Identification of vulnerabilities:Hydrogen embrittlement tests allow for the identification of critical areas in materials that are more susceptible to hydrogen-induced embrittlement. This is essential for taking preventive measures and mitigating potential failures
- Safety and reliability:By understanding how hydrogen interacts with materials, designs and processes can be improved to ensure the safety and reliability of structures and components.
- Material optimization:Hydrogen embrittlement tests help in selecting and developing more resistant and suitable materials for environments with a high presence of hydrogen, such as in industrial applications or gas transportation.
- Compliance with regulations and standards: Conducting these tests is essential to comply with the regulations and safety standards established by authorities and industries. This ensures that the materials used are fit for purpose and meet safety requirements.
- Prevention of catastrophic failures: Hydrogen embrittlement tests help prevent catastrophic failures in critical components and structures, avoiding costly damage and loss of life.
- Development of sustainable technologies: By understanding how hydrogen affects materials, we can work towards developing more sustainable technologies, such as safer and more efficient hydrogen storage and transportation systems."
- Innovation and technological advancements: Hydrogen embrittlement tests encourage research and innovation in the field of materials science, leading to technological advancements and continuous improvements in the strength and durability of materials.
In summary, hydrogen embrittlement tests are essential for ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of materials in environments with hydrogen presence. These tests provide valuable information for improving the design, selection, and development of materials, resulting in a safer and more sustainable industry.
